Session

The concept of ‘psychological mindedness’, the capacity for self-reflection and insight is a familiar one for coaches and can help us pay attention to what is going on for our coachees but also for ourselves and our own self development.

In this workshop I will reflect on my coaching work and PhD research with artists and propose a new concept of ‘artistic mindedness’ which allows coaches to recognise and perform artistic processes creatively with the coachee. Together we will explore this concept and how it might manifest in our coaching work, taking our definitions of creative coaching beyond merely recourse to a toolkit of creative techniques and offering the possibility of new definitions of creativity in coaching practice.

Questions we will explore together will include:
– How might artists be different to other coachees and what does this require of us as practitioners?
– What can we learn from working with artistic and creative coachees and how might this impact on our practice?
– When and how can we most usefully employ creative techniques with our coachees?
– When are we at our most creative as practitioners, and what do we need to support us in this space?
